Welcome to the memorial page for

Martha (Dewar) Reichert

March 14, 2017

Martha Dewar Reichert, died peacefully on March 14, 2017, surrounded by her family, at the age of 87. She was born on November 14, 1929 in Pittsburgh, PA and was a proud Bellevue resident through her 20’s.  Martha graduated from Bellevue High School and attended Westminster College, where she met her beloved husband Doug, as well as many of her lifelong friends. She studied Business Education, was on the Mermaids Synchronized Swim Team and was a member of the Sigma Kappa Sorority. She graduated in 1951 and married Douglas Austin Reichert. They settled in Ben Avon Heights, where they lived their entire married life. Martha was involved in many activities, but nothing was as important to her as her years teaching Business Education at Avonworth High School.   Martha is predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Douglas; her sister, Mary Elizabeth Dewar Duff, and her parents, Joseph Kyle Dewar and Maxine Barker Dewar. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Douglas Austin Reichert, Jr., and Donna Follini Reichert, and her son James Dewar Reichert, her niece and nephew, Amy Duff Zeffiro and Robert Elder Duff, Jr. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Lynn Reichert (Biggs) Cannon, Lisa Anne Reichert, Laura Reichert (Charles) Matthews, Sara Reichert (Cody) Higginbottom, Joseph Dewar Reichert, and Lucien Searle Reichert, as well as three great-grandchildren, Grace, Austin and Charlotte Cannon. Martha truly cherished her two sons; her nieces and nephews; her grandchildren, her great-grandchildren and her friends. She loved the beach and family vacations to Avalon & Stone Harbor, New Jersey from August 1936 to August, 2016. She adored her black labs! She will be remembered by all who knew her for her dry sense of humor, her love of laughter and family and her passion for kindness. “There is nothing nicer than…NICE!"  Martha has been a long-time member of the Community Presbyterian Church of Ben Avon.  A memorial service will be held there on Saturday, March 25th. The church is located at 7501 Church Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15202 . The memorial service will start at 3pm.
