Dr. Marian D.
Of Hummelstown, PA, passed away unexpectedly, on Wednesday, July 25, 2018, one day before her 75th birthday. Marian was born July 26, 1943 in Pittsburgh, PA to the late William G. and Margaret E. (McNally) Sutter. Marian is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Paul E. and Lou Ann Sutter of Pittsburgh, PA., her cherished nieces and nephews, Eden L. Reynolds (Jim) of Jacksonville, FL, William G. Sutter, III (Marci) of Greensburg, PA, Joshua P. Sutter (Liz) of Aurora, OH, Megan M. Straub (Geoff) of Pittsburgh, PA, Jennifer E. Beck (Jason) of Pittsburgh, PA and Edward J. Sutter, Jr. (Elise) of South Park Twp., PA, her 15 great nieces and nephews, cousins, her many friends and colleagues. Marian was preceded in death by her brothers William G. Sutter, Jr. (surviving spouse Nancy Snyder) and Edward J. Sutter (surviving Joan Anderson). Marian received her B.S. from Slippery Rock University in 1965, her M. Ed. at East Stroudsburg University in 1971 and her PhD in Health Education from Penn State in 1991. She began her career in health education at Churchill Valley School District in 1965. She retired in 2007 from the Pennsylvania Department of Education as Chief of The Division of Professional Development and Planning. She also was the Pennsylvania State Director of the Governor's Schools of Education and the Governor's Institutes & Academics for Education for many years. Marian was a member of many professional organizations and received numerous awards. She enjoyed teaching, music and golf. She especially enjoyed traveling to the beach and visiting family in Ireland. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends and colleagues. Marian was a very active member of the Hummelstown Area Historical Society. She was very involved with the Hummelstown Bicenquinquagenary (250th) Commemorative Book Committee and recently the restoring of the Hummelstown Cemetery. Family and friends will be received Friday 2-4 & 6-8 PM & Saturday 10:30 AM until time of Funeral Service at 11:30 AM in McDONALD-LINN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, LLC., 529 California Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15202. Interment Private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hummelstown Area Historical Society.
