Fred McCormick, Sr. Obituary

McCORMICK

Fred Boyle, Sr.

March 16, 1923 – August 17, 2018

Fred grew up in Beaver Falls, PA and often accompanied his father, Dr. George McCormick, on his patient house calls. He attended Geneva College where he met his bride-to-be, Bonnie Deener. They married in 1944, shortly before Fred was shipped to Europe for WWII. He served as a Corporal in the infantry and was a pharmacist at the military hospital in Wiesbaden after the armistice. He finished his biology degree at Geneva after the war and embarked on a long career as a high school biology and driver's ed teacher in the Avalon school system. Fred and his family lived in Emsworth and Ben Avon for many years. He loved Ontario’s Kawartha Lakes region and spent many summers with the family at the cottage on Deer Bay Lake fishing, swimming, and driving our ski boat for all the kids in our bay. Upon retiring, Fred and Bonnie built a home on 15 acres of woodlands near Parker, PA. They enjoyed the peaceful summers of gardening, hiking in the woods, and hosting family gatherings. In later years, Fred and Bonnie moved to Green Valley, AZ and had many enjoyable years exploring the Sonoran desert, Madeira Canyon, and the southwest. In 2010, they moved to a senior care complex in St. Paul, MN to be close to Fred, Jr.’s family. Despite the radical climate change, Fred and Bonnie enjoyed the Twin Cities. They always looked forward to our traditional family dinners on Sundays while spending the afternoon watching Steelers and Vikings football and Twins baseball. Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, and other family holidays were also special during their time in Minnesota. Fred, Sr. is preceded in death by his loving wife, Bonnie; dear daughter, Sydney; parents George and Sydney (Shriver) McCormick; and siblings George Jr., Alma, Louis, and Virginia.  Fred, Sr. is survived by sons Fred, Jr. (Mitzi) and Charles (Barbara); grandchildren Kayleigh, Kyle, Niall and Nate; many nieces and nephews and lifelong friends.  Relatives and friends received Thursday 2-4 & 6-8 PM at McDONALD-LINN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, LLC.,529 California Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15202 where Funeral Service will be held Friday 10 AM, followed by interment with military honors in Allegheny County Memorial Park, Allison Park.  Please view and sign the family’s online guestbook at;
