Bruce Smith Obituary

Bruce Allen Smith, age 91, went to be with the Lord on December 29, 2020.

Bruce was born in Duquesne, PA .  As a teenager, he was a ride operator at Kennywood Park. His father was one of the carpenters who built Noah’s Ark and parts of Kiddie Land.  Also in Bruce’s teenage years, he loved Western movies and novels so much that he spent a summer traveling the American Southwest. Upon graduating high school, he worked for a year in a steel mill then went into the Air Force where he was stationed in Texas, Colorado, and Hawaii.

After the military, he became a bank teller which is where he met Belinda, who became his wife of almost 58 years. He later became an insurance representative and one of his clients was Kennywood Park. Bruce’s family lived in several Pittsburgh area neighborhoods but mostly resided in Avalon. In the mid-1960’s, Bruce and his family moved to Hawaii for 2 years and then returned to Pittsburgh.

When Bruce retired, he had time to travel, which he always loved. After returning from a trip to Europe, he bought a house in Florida and a boat, which reflected his long time interest in boating. Bruce always loved reading books and magazines, and watching movies. Bruce was often found smiling when watching the classic movies.

Bruce was predeceased by his wife, son, and siblings (Warren, Dorothy, Lloyd, and G. Donald). Bruce is fondly remembered by his children, grandchildren, and the rest of his family for many reasons including his ever-present smile. The family would like to thank Bridges Hospice for the tremendous care and kindness given to Bruce.
