Harry Kramer JR. Obituary

Harry G. Kramer Jr., age 85 of Ohio Township, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, January 26, 2023.

Born on the Northside and raised in Emsworth, Harry met his high school sweetheart, Mabby, almost 70 years ago.

A star football player, he left Avonworth halfway through his senior year to enlist in the Navy.

Between naval cruises they married May 26, 1956, started having kids and never stopped! Five boys in a row - Harry, Jim, Rob, Matt and Ben - and years later a daughter, Julie.

In 1973 he built their dream home on seven acres in Ohio Township where they lived for nearly fifty years. In the home he built with his own hands, his family gathered regularly for Sunday dinner to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, and even a wedding.

Harry had an incredible work ethic and while his primary job was as a stationary engineer for Alcosan he never missed an opportunity to provide for his family.

Self-taught, he was always tinkering and learning and did remodeling on the side before becoming the building inspector for Ohio Township. As if two jobs wasn’t enough, he opened Kramer Supply in 1988 where he sold gravel, topsoil, tons and tons of hostas and a tobacco plant or two.

After 42 years at Alcosan, 31 as the building inspector and 30 years selling gravel, he finally retired completely at the age of 80.

He enjoyed the outdoors - hunting, fishing, cutting grass and gardening. He loved going to his hunting camp in Oil City with the boys every year for the start of deer season.

He loved animals and everyone in the township knew his co-pilots, his dogs, Sam and Smokey. But more than anything, he loved his wife. In May they celebrated 66 years of marriage.

A meeting at the age of 15 on California Avenue resulted in six kids - Harry, Jim (Deb), Rob, Matt (Lori), Ben and Julie (Bill); eleven grandchildren - Eric, Melissa, Ashley, Luke, Jake, Hannah, Melanie, Dalton, Christian, Adam, and Ben; five great-grandchildren - Peyton, Ryder, Levi, Ava, and Maverick.

He was born on September 25, 1937 and was the son of the late Harry G. Kramer Sr. and Helen Petruskie. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother Bill and sister-in-law Mary Kramer.

No visitation. Friends, please join his family to celebrate his life Sunday, January 29 at Carmody’s Grille from 1:00-4:00 pm.
