John Earl Welburn, age 80 of Ben Avon, passed away on June 9, 2022. He was born on August 11, 1941.
John of the Bellevue/Ben Avon area attended Bellevue High School 1959 where he played trumpet in the band. Because of his extraordinary musical talent, he was accepted at the Juilliard School of Music where he obtained a Bachelor of Music-Trumpet in 1965 and Master of Science in 1966. He obtained his Master of Arts degree from Columbia University in 1969. John worked with the AIU for several years where he taught music to underprivileged boys and helped them into vocational schools. At Duquesne University he earned his Master of Science in Education in 1983 and his Doctor of Education in 2002. He served as Professional Counselor at Duquesne University for several years. He loved talking and counseling young people as to their courses in college.
In later years he served on the Board of Directors at The Pennsylvania Gunsmithing School. John was a skilled marksman and spent time at the rifle range whenever possible. He was a lifetime member of NSSA.
John’s hobby was working with wood. Many of his crafted objects decorate his home.
He is survived by his wife Theresa (Terry), cousins Sharon Vorrasi, Pittsburgh, Pa., James Rohrbach (Pat) of Redding, California, the Hall/Humphrey family of Pittsburgh Pa., the Joseph Maola family of Penn Hills, Pa., and many friends and neighbors.
