Katherine Holman Obituary

In her 101st year, passed away peacefully at Country Meadows Assisted Living, in South Fayette, on September 22, 2021, with her son and daughter by her side. Born May 21, 1920 to Ellen (Tunney) and David F. Merriman, she and her sister grew up in the North Side of Pittsburgh, Ohio Township, Emsworth and Chicago, where the family lived across the street from Al Capone’s family. Katherine worked as a long-distance telephone operator during WWII, then married J David “Dave” Holman on June 14, 1945. They shared 63 steadfast years together until he died in 2008. Katherine also served as a secretary to the High School Principal in the Avonworth School District for many years, retiring in 1988. Beloved mother of Kathleen Crisanti (Sal) and David L. Holman (Patty). Dear grandmother to Lisa Holman, Kevin Holman and Jadelyn Crisanti. Adoring great-grandmother to Robyne Dulski, Dean Dulski, Audrey Holman, Misha Holman and Cameron Holman. Nephew, Bruce McKelvy. First great-great-grandchild arriving in October. She was always independent, safely driving until age 96. Long-time member of Mt. Nebo Presbyterian Church and Mt. Nebo Grange. Volunteered with Meals-On-Wheels 20+ years, delivering meals to people much younger than herself. Katherine shared her love of card games with her grandchildren, taught them how to make woodfire desserts and the fun of camping. Her passion for music stayed lifelong; her talent for knitting, needlepoint, crocheting and sewing resulted in hundreds of items that she generously passed onto others. Her back porch was ablaze with red geraniums in summer and always ready for company. Katherine is predeceased by her beloved husband, Dave; grandson S Sgt. Eric S. Holman and sister Ruth McKelvy. There will be no viewing or visitation held for Katherine. Church service will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at 11:00 a.m., Mt. Nebo Presbyterian Church, with a graveside service to follow immediately after. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society, Mt. Nebo Presbyterian Church, Wounded Warriors Project or a foundation of personal choice. The family would like to extend their greatest thanks to the staff of Gallagher Hospice and Country Meadows of South Hills for their compassionate and supportive care. Arrangements entrusted to the McDONALD-LINN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICE, LLC., 529 California Ave., Pgh., PA., 15202.
