Margaret "Ruth" (Breitenbach) Costello

On Friday, Oct. 1, 2021, Margaret “Ruth” (Breitenbach) Costello of Emsworth, passed away peacefully at the age of 89. She was the beloved wife of the late Regis E. Costello, to whom she was married for 68 years until his passing in August of 2020. Ruth was born and raised in Emsworth on April 1, 1932 and lived there until 2020. She was a graduate of St. Benedict Academy in Ross and was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Church in Emsworth. In addition to her husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her granddaughter Erin Markoff. As one of nine children, Ruth also was predeceased by her brother Albert Breitenbach and her sisters, Eileen Ackerman, Kathleen Herbst, Elizabeth Kastory, Honora Sefick and Marianne Monteverde. She is survived by her sister Lucille Kehr of Wilmington, DE, and brother Bill Breitenbach of Flemington, NJ., daughter, Marilyn (Ed) Markoff, of Munhall, and son, Edward (Carla) Costello, of McCandless. She also leaves behind four grandchildren, Hayley (Tim) Hinkle, Steve Markoff, and Ryan and Evan Costello; three great grandchildren, Brayden, Mackenzie and Riley Hinkle; and many nieces and nephews. Ruth was a talented professional seamstress and a selfless wife, mother and grandparent who took great pleasure in the company of family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed making and collecting holiday crafts. She was a perfectionist in baking, especially every Christmas season, when she would create a variety of her family’s favorite cookie creations by the hundreds of dozens. Family and Friends are welcome for visitation on THURSDAY, Oct. 7, 2021, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at The McDONALD-LINN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICE, LLC., 529 California Avenue, Avalon, PA 15202.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Emsworth, PA.
