Robert (Bob) Paul Matous, age 88, died peacefully at home on January 3, 2022. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA on May 18, 1933.
He was happily married for 64 years to his beloved wife, Elva (Larsen) Matous. He is survived by children, Faith, Charlie, Bob, Philip, and Carolyn (Fertig), by 5 grandchildren, Luke (Amanda), Sarah (Andrew) Cooper, Oscar, Sam, and Margaret and 4 great-grandchildren, and is predeceased by sons Mike and Oscar, and parents Blanche and Oscar, and brother Ronald.
Bob is a graduate of West View High School, Valley Forge Military Academy Junior College, attended the University of Rochester, and received a B.S. from The Ohio State University. He was an optician in Bellevue at Oscar P Matous & Sons Opticians from 1958 until he retired in 2001. During his career, he was President of both the Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania Guild of Opticians and was twice named PA State Optician of the Year. Being active in the local community, he was on the Board of the North Boroughs YMCA, President of the Bellevue Chamber of Commerce, President of the North Boroughs Lions Club, and Senior Warden of All Saints Episcopal Church. He loved gardening on the front porch, reading, and was astute in civil war history.
Friends will be received at the McDonald-Linn Funeral Home in Avalon (529 California Avenue, Pgh, 15202), on Thursday, January 6th from 3-5 and 6-8 PM. A service will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church (3577 McClure Ave, Pgh, 15212) on Friday, January 7th at 11AM. The family respectfully requests attendees to wear a mask at services. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to All Saints Episcopal Church in Bob’s memory.
